In this post I am going to highlight two kinds of fish fries that are extremely easy and simple to make. As for the taste, well, you decide and tell me which of the two do you like the best… Because I can’t make up my mind 😊.
The first one is a Marathi special rava coated fry. I usually go for this whenever I am short of time and need a quick spin in the kitchen.
Ingredients : (Time taken per fish fry 10 min max)
– Fishes cut and cleaned (any fish type can be taken)
– 1/2 tsp turmeric
– 2 tbsp ginger garlic paste
– 1 tsp red chilli powder
– salt to taste
– 100 gm Suji/rava coarse for coating
– 1 tbsp rice flour
– 1/2 a lemon for squeezing
Recipe:
1. Marinate the fish pieces with turmeric, red chilli powder, ginger garlic paste, lemon juice and salt. Keep aside for 10 min. You can even fry immediately if you are short on time.
2. Take the rava/suji in a flat plate. Add the rice flour, little salt and red chilli powder to it and spread the mix on the plate.
3. Take the marinated fish piece one at a time and roll it in the plate with the rava mix so that the fish piece gets coated on all sides.
4. Take some oil in the pan and once the oil is hot turn down the flame to medium and deep fry the rava coated fish pieces. Serve them hot.

This is the other kind of masala fish fry which is more of Odia style. Even this does not need any prior preparation or grinding and is a simple delicacy to be had with steamed rice and dal. It’s absolutely delicious.
Ingredients : ( Time taken per fish fry maximum 10 min)
– Fish pieces ( any fish type can be taken)
– salt to taste
– 1/2 tsp turmeric
– 1 tsp red chilli powder
– 2 tbsp ginger garlic paste
– 2 tbsp gram flour or besan
– 1 tbsp rice flour or powdered rice
– 1/2 tsp cumin powder
– 1 tsp coriander powder
– 1/2 tsp garam masala powder
– 1/2 tsp black pepper powder
– 1 lemon
Recipe:
1. Marinate the fish pieces with salt, turmeric and red chilli powder. You can either keep the marinated fish aside for 10-15 min or fry them directly.
2. In a bowl take the ginger garlic paste, besan or gram flour, rice flour, cumin powder, garam masala powder, coriander powder, black pepper powder, salt and red chilli powder. You can change the quantities of the masala powders based on your taste.
Mix them well to form a thick paste. Add some water if needed. Squeeze lemon juice on the masala paste and mix well. The consistency of the paste should be such that it sticks on to the fish pieces.
3. Dip the marinated fish pieces one at a time in the masala paste. Coat the fish pieces well with the paste on all sides.
Take oil in a pan and once the oil heats up lower the flame to medium. Deep fry the masala coated fish pieces. Serve them hot with steamed rice and daal.
