Every single time I have gone to an Indian restaurant I have ordered for my absolute favourite butter garlic naan. For a very long time I had thought that this cannot be made at home and even if it can be made it can never taste like in restaurants. And I am glad I proved myself wrong. This easy recipe of butter garlic naan will take you as close to that restaurant naan as possible and that too without the need of any special tandoors or instruments. So, let’s get started on the recipe.
Ingredients:
– 2 cups all purpose flour or maida
– 3/4th cup curd
– 1/2 tsp salt
– 1 tsp powdered sugar or small granuled sugar
– 1 tsp baking powder
– 2 tsp vegetable oil
– Milk as needed
– 2 tsp Cumin seeds
– 1/4th cup of melted butter (take butter and melt it in the microwave)
– 1 tsp kasuri methi
– 4-5 cloves of garlic
Recipe:
1. Take a bowl. Add the flour. Add salt and sugar. Add the baking powder. Add the vegetable oil. Mix well using your hands.
2. Add the curd little at a time and using your hands make a smooth dough. If the curd exhausts use a little milk to make the dough. Once the dough is made add 1 tsp of vegetable oil evenly and smoothen the dough.
Cover the dough and set aside for 20-25 min. Then smoothen the dough again using your hands.
3. Pluck out lemon sized balls. Dust them with some flour and roll them to sheets of medium thicknesses. Roll them to naan like elongated shape. Sprinkle with some cumin seeds and roll them so that they stick to the rolled dough.
4. Take a pan. Do not add oil to the pan. Heat the pan at high flame for a minute. Once the pan is hot enough turn down the flame to medium-high and put the rolled sheet/bread onto the pan. Roast the naan on both sides for about 1-2 min each till the naan is cooked. You can see dark brown spots on each side as you roast. Turn down the flame if you feel its too high and may burn the breads.
5. In a small bowl add the melted butter. Using a hand shredder shred the garlic cloves and add the minced garlic to the butter. Add the dried kasuri methi leaves and mix it well.
Using a spoon spread the butter garlic mix on the naans. Be generous 😊. And enjoy your butter garlic naans with some spicy curry or dal fry on the side.
