Uggani is a puffed rice dishthat can be had for breakfast or as a snack. We added this recently into our rotation and I love it. It is a tasty dish that comes together pretty quickly and worth the attempt.

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup roasted chana dal
  • 2-3 dry red chilli – based on spiciness
  • 1 medium onion – chopped
  • 1 medium tomato – chopped
  • 1 green chilli – finely chopped
  • Roasted peanuts – 4 tbsp
  • Curry leaves – 1 sprig
  • Turmeric – 1/4 tsp
  • Oil – 4 tbsp
  • Murmura – 3.5 cups
  • Salt – to taste

Recipe

  • Add 2 tbsp of oil to a kadhai and add chana dal and red chili to it and roast until dal turns light brown
  • Add a sprig of curry leaves to this.
  • Let it cool and grind to a coarse powder
  • Add the remaining oil to a kadhai and add the chopped onion to it.
  • Soak the murmura for about 4-5 mins
  • Add roasted peanuts to the oil and chopped onion
  • Add salt to this and chopped tomato to this. Cook until onion and tomato mixture soften
  • Squeeze the soaked murmura out of water and add it to the onion and tomato mixture now
  • Mix it all well and cover to cook on low flame for about 3-4 mins
