Daal Vada

Whenever the weather gets rainy or cold heart craves for these fried fritters. And the only way for some guilt free hogging is to go for some protein loaded fritters. That’s when these Dal Vadas come to the rescue.

And here we go.

Ingredients:

– 1 cup yellow moong Dal about 75 gm

– 1/2 cup chana dal

– water to soak

– 1 medium sized onion finely chopped

– 1 green chilli finely chopped

– 3-4 finely chopped curry leaves

– 1 pinch hing

– 2 tbsp rice powder

– 1 tsp cumin

– 1 tsp carom seeds

– 1 tsp chat masala

– 1.5 tbsp ginger garlic paste

– 1 tbsp coriander leaves

– salt and kosher salt to taste

– 1 tsp red chilli powder

– 1 pinch turmeric

– oil for deep frying

Recipe :

1. Soak both the lentils in a bowl filled with water for about 2 hours.

2. Drain the water and blend the lentils to for a semi smooth paste. If the paste is a bit coarse that’s fine.

3. Add the rice powder, ginger garlic paste, finely chopped onions, green chillies, curry leaves and all the ingredients listed above to the Dal vada batter. Using your hands give it a good mix. Then form small discs with the help of your hands in the shape of vadas as shown in the snap. If the batter is too dry and you are unable to make the shapes add 1-2 tbsp water to the batter and try.

4. Take about a cup of oil in a pan for deep frying. Once the oil is hot enough at medium flame drop the Dal vadas into the oil in batches. Fry on both sides till the vadas turn golden brown in colour.

Enjoy your protein rich Dal Vadas 😊.
