This is one side dish that’s my absolute absolute favorite. I remember the days when I used to go to Pizza Hut and hog on their chilli cheese garlic breads… And only them! Yes, you read it right. Instead of pizzas I used to order just these breads and hog to my fill. I must have spent a fortune on them.
Years later when mozerella cheese became more commonly available that is when I tried out this at home and from then on not only I can quench my cravings for them whenever I feel like but I am also saving a fortune 😊.
So, here goes the recipe.
Ingredients (serves 4 | total time taken 15 min):
– bread or bun/pav slices (if you do not have the authentic bread loaf that gives the perfect garlic bread look it’s OK… You can use the normal bread or buns/pavs at home. Buns/pavs taste better than the normal breads if the breads aren’t thick enough. Try using the thick bread slices if you are making with bread.)
– shredded mozerella cheese (no other kind of cheese will taste as good)
– melted butter 15-20 ml (salted or otherwise)
– 8-10 garlic cloves
– 1-2 green chillies cut to small pieces
– 1 small onion cut to small pieces
– Oregano
– Chilli flakes
Recipe:
1. Take the butter in a microwave safe cup and melt it in the microwave for a minute.
2. Using a manual hand shredder shred/mince the garlic cloves on top of the melted butter.
3. Apply the garlic butter on the bread slices or buns/pavs on one side. Be generous.
If you are using normal bread slices then after this step you need to toast the bread slices on a low-medium flame on the stove so that they become crunchy. You can even place the bread slices in the oven at 900 degrees for 2-3 min to toast.
If you are using buns/pavs then there is no need to toast them at this stage.
4. Put the onion and chilli toppings on the toasted bread slices or on the buns/pavs on the side on which the garlic butter was applied.
5. Cover the slices with the shredded mozerella cheese. Garnish with oregano and chilli flakes.
6. Place the slices inside the microwave for 1-1.5 min at 800 degrees till the cheese melts.
Your extra special chilli cheese garlic bread is ready to serve😊.
