Had I known earlier that pizza could be so easily made at home I would have saved so much money that I spent on various pizza joints whenever the craving had struck. And so many times I even had got disappointed with it not being upto my taste.
Thanks to the lockdown that I spent some time hunting on various recipes to zero upon this simple pizza recipe which calls for no yeast. And you get as near as you can to the pizza hut kind of pizza with this recipe.
This recipe will give you a medium sized pizza with a soft chewy thick crust as good as the store bought pizza base or actually even better. No preservatives and made with wheat flour too. Try it and may be you too will stop buying the store bought pizzas like me !
Ingredients ( Cup measure is 250 gm about the size of a standard coffee mug) :
– 1 cup wheat flour ( or all purpose flour for the authentic taste if you like)
– 1/2 cup all purpose flour
– 1 tsp baking powder
– 1 tsp baking soda
– 1 tsp salt
– 1/3 rd cup curd
– 1 tsp vinegar or lemon juice

– half a bowl of tomato sauce or pizza sauce
– 4-5 finely chopped garlic cloves
– Water as needed
– Pizza toppings of your choice
– Shredded mozzarella cheese to taste
– Oregano to taste
– Chilli flakes to taste
Recipe ( Prep time 15 minutes; Baking time 20 minutes; total time 35 minutes) :
1. In a bowl add the wheat flour, all purpose flour, salt, baking powder, baking soda, curd and vinegar. Knead into a soft dough. Add 1-2 tbsp water if necessary. Add more curd if you fall short of it while kneading. Add 1tsp of oil after the dough is kneaded and knead for a minute.
Cover and set aside the dough for 10 minutes.
2. While the dough rests preheat the oven at 300 watt and 200 degrees centigrade for 15 minutes.
In a bowl take the tomato sauce or pizza sauce and add the finely chopped garlic to it. Also chop the toppings like onion, capsicum, mushroom, olives etc to your choice and keep them ready.
3. After the setting time of 10 minutes for the dough take the dough and knead again and roll the dough out thick like pizza bases. Dust flour if the dough is sticky while rolling.
4. Using a fork prick all over the pizza base. With a spoon apply the pizza sauce over the base. Add the toppings of your choice and the shredded cheese as per your preference. Sprinkle the oregano and chilli flakes as per your taste.
Ensure to add the pizza sauce and toppings to the pizza base just before baking so that the base doesn’t end up getting soggy.
5. In the preheated oven bake the pizza at 300 watts and 200 degrees centigrade for 15-20 minutes.
Enjoy your homemade pizza.
